All the Single Ladies- Throw your hands Up at Me!!!!!

Keeping in mind our examination of Christina Rossetti’s Promises like Pie-Crust, today we are going to look at another representation of women and their perspective on marriage.

Beyonce’s song Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it) lets us know (in the most entertaining way possible) that women are not just waiting for men to propose anymore- they are single and loving it!

I’m sure you have all heard of Beyonce…but if not

Info on Beyonce can be found at:

and I’m sure you have all seen this videos clip…but just in case you haven’t,

There is no real need for us to research the context of this text, as it is a contemporary work. It is the here and now, you are living the context. So here is a question just to start you thinking… What do women have in our contemporary culture that is different Christina Rossetti’s context?

With this in Mind...

What different perspectives does Beyonce’s song offer?

What personal values does Beyonce
represent in this song? How does she compare or contrast to Christina Rossetti personal values?

Do you think this song presents different values to Rossetti’s poem? Why?

How are these values represented in the song? (Its your turn to do a poetic analysis. Remember you poetic techiniques!!!)

Do you think this song represents woman in a positive and empowered way? Why?
